Juwan Lewis is happy to officially be a Eastern Michigan Eagle and is ready to hit the field and the classroom. Juwan Lewis had a great senior season finshing the season with 20 touchdowns and 1,446 rushing yards. Juwan Lewis also finshed his senior season with 1st Team All-Academic, 1st Team All-Area, 1st Team All-Conference and 1st Team All-State honors. Juwan is eager to bring his academic and athletic excellence to Eastern Michigan. So I sat down with Juwan and had a nice talk with him about his recruiting process and future expectations. Enjoy!
Position(s): Running Back
First Game Started: The first game I started was my sophomore year; we played Martin Luther King High School at Eastern Michigan University.
Pregame Traditions: I would always go up to my dad and give him a hug. We would have a father and son moment and he would pump me up, then I would go back to the field, feeling relaxed and ready to go.
Postgame Traditions: After the game, I would generally hang out with my family for a while. Then my friends/teammates and I would go somewhere and watch are game highlights on the news.
Athlete in NCAA or NFL you try building your game around: Even though he isn’t in the NFL anymore I honestly would like
to build my game around Mike Hart. He was a great running back at Michigan and has a high football IQ. I also would like to build my game around Running Back Javonti Greene a current player at Eastern Michigan, because he is great player who the teams looks to as a leader and more.
Lauren Beasley - How did it feel signing to Eastern Michigan University?
Juwan Lewis – It felt great! I have been waiting to make my decision for a while and I felt that Eastern Michigan was the best fit for me both athletically and academically.
Lauren Beasley - How long had Eastern Michigan been recruiting you?
Juwan Lewis - Eastern Michigan has been recruiting me since my sophomore year and they really started to get more interested my junior year and finally offered me my scholarship in early spring of last year.
Lauren Beasley - What influenced your decision to sign with Eastern Michigan University?
Juwan Lewis – Education is the most important thing to me and the fact that the coaching staff and players also feel it's the most important thing was a big plus for me. My official visit was great; I loved everything about the campus. I also like the fact that they are an upcoming program and want to get better and succeed. Lastly I have siblings and cousins that will be going to high school soon and I want to be here for them if they need me. Family is the most important thing to me, so naturally I wanted to be close to them.
Lauren Beasley - What position will you be playing as an Eagle and what can we expect your role to be?
Juwan Lewis – My postion will remain at Running Back. The coaches feel that I am the missing piece to the puzzle as far running backs. I will not be redshirting this season, so you can expect to see me get playing time this upcoming season. Expectations are high for me coming in and I expect to exceed those expectations and more.
Lauren Beasley - How is your relationship with any other members of the 2012 Eastern Michigan class?
Juwan Lewis – My relationship with incoming class is good, we all want the same things and are eager to get on the field. I have a great relationship with Running Back Javonti Greene who is a current player on Eastern Michigan roster. He showed me around campus and
treated me like his little brother. Coach Mike Hart has also been great to me and has stated that if I should need anything or have any questions or concerns, I can come to him.
Lauren Beasley - What were some of your favorite moments while playing at Muskegon?
Juwan Lewis – Favorite moment would definitely have to be the game when we played Mattawan High School in this year’s playoffs. As far as stats, that was my career high game. I played well and so did the rest of my team and it was huge boost for my team and my career.
Lauren Beasley - What kind of an impact do you feel you left at Muskegon and how do you see the program shaping in the future?
Juwan Lewis – I feel my impact at Muskegon was setting the bar to strive for the best and give it your all, all you have to do is be humble and play the game to the best of your ability. I feel the team will be very successful in the future, because I and past players have raised the bar and now it’s time for the current and future players to raise the bar even higher.
I don'tknow about you but I am definetly eager to see what Juwan Lewis can do at the college level and see how he can help the Eastern Michigan Eagles! Check out Juwan's Senior Highlight Tape, at the bottom!!!
