Megatron Ranked No.3, should he have been ranked higher? by Lauren Beasley
Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin “Megatron” Johnson was ranked No. 3 in the NFL’s Top 100 Players of 2012. Now this list is made up by the players of the NFL, not the fans, not the coaches, not the owners, it’s only the players.
Now I know you’re wondering who ranked higher than Megatron. Quarterback Drew Brees was ranked No.2 and Quarterback Aaron Rodgers was ranked No. 1.
Once again the question is should Megatron have been ranked higher than No.3 or should he have been ranked the No.1 player in the NFL?
I personally feel he is at the right spot. Megatron is the best wide receiver in the NFL, there is no doubt in my mind about that but I can’t say he is No.1 player in the NFL.
I love and respect him as a player and a person but I feel he is in the right spot.
First off because the Quarterback position is the hardest and most criticized position in sports. I have to say right now Aaron Rodgers and Drew Brees are the best and most consistent at that position. Both have had their share of ups and downs on the field but at the end of the day they are great Quarterbacks who have rings and are consistent leaders to their teams.
I mean come on; Drew Brees set the NFL record last season for single season passing yards, throwing for 5,476 yards and 71% completion percentage which was another NFL record he accomplished last season.
Then with Aaron Rodgers he is just on another level right now with everything that he does. Yes his team didn’t make it back to the Superbowl last season but it wasn’t because of his play. He played extremely well last season. He threw for 4,643 yards and total of 45 touchdowns and only 6 interceptions.
Now this is no disrespect to Calvin Johnson because he also had a great season last year. He broke the record for most receiving touchdowns in a single season, scoring a total of 16 touchdowns. Last season he also was the first player with at least 2 receiving touchdowns in a team's 1st 4 games of a season. He is one of the main reasons that the Lions made their first playoff appearance in over a decade and he continues to be the man the Lions can depend on to make play.
However I still stand by statement, I think Aaron Rodgers and Drew Brees deserve the spot the No.2 and No. 1 spot. I say again that the Quarterback position is the hardest and most criticized position in sports and also because a team can’t go forward or win a Superbowl without a great Quarterback to lead them. Rodgers and Brees have led their teams to a SuperBowl, they are arguably the best quarterbacks in the NFL and they consistently play on amazing level. They deserve the credit that they have received.
So once again I agree with the Top 3 picks of the NFL’s Top 100 Players of 2012.
