Randy Moss Wants to Come Back to the NFL, Good or Bad Idea? by Lauren Beasley
Randy Moss says he wants to come back to the NFL. Now there are two main questions need to be answered. First question is; is it too risky to put Randy Moss on a team? Second question; what team would be good fit for him and what team needs him?
Personally I still believe Randy Moss can make some noise and help a team out. Let’s review Randy Moss records and etc. Randy Moss: 153 touchdown receptions, tied with Terrell Owens for second on the career list. He's fifth all-time in yards and ninth in receptions. His 29 touchdowns of at least 50 yards are behind only Jerry Rice (36). He led the NFL in touchdown receptions five times, was selected to the Pro Bowl six times and was named first team All-Pro four times. His 23 TDs in 2007 led the entire NFL and his 138 points scored that season were second only to kicker Mason Crosby.
I mean come people, that is great track record. Now of course Randy Moss has had his down sides. He is known to have outrageous attitude that normally causes problems in the locker room and on the field. Technically his numbers took a hit after he
was traded by the Patriots back to Minnesota, released by the Vikings and picked up by the Tennessee Titans. He recorded career lows of 28 catches for 393 yards and five TDs that season.
However I believe he is looking to be that missing piece for a team and not cause drama with teammates and coaches.I still feel he can make an impact. Randy Moss is an un-checkable receiver who has great hands. I feel Randy Moss can do two things for a team in particular, he can be a hail mary target and/or take attention off a main receiver. For example, at team like the Detroit Lions, they have the best wide receiver in the NFL in Calvin Johnson, but if they were to acquire Randy Moss, he is another target that teams have to worry about and another end zone target for Matt Stafford well. Another example is a team like the Patriots, you have good receivers like Wes Welker and Deion Branch but you don’t have a receiver who you can throw the ball to in clutch situations who can make a great play. Well technically the Patriots do have that in Chad Ochocinco, but chose not to use him. He is a great veteran receiver who can also be a leader to young upcoming receivers.
Lastly he is a veteran and someone who is coming out of retirement, teams should be able to acquire him on a trial bases that doesn’t cost them too much money. For example whatever team that decides to acquire him can sign for him 1-year for about 5 million dollars or less. That way they can see what he has to offer but are able to get rid of him after one season if they want.
Teams I believe that could benefit from acquiring Randy Moss:
· New England Patriots
· Detroit Lions
· Philadelphia Eagles
· Pittsburgh Steelers
· Arizona Cardinals
· Denver Broncos
· Carolina Panthers
· St. Louis Rams
