2012 QB Victor Edge of Henry Ford (MI) excited to get started at Northwood University By Lauren Beasley
2012 Quarterback/Safety Victor Edge Jr is a talented athlete who can play almost any position on the field. He was one of the most underrated players in state of Michigan this season. He played both sides of the ball and led his team to PSL Division 2 Championship at Ford Field this season. He is now signed with Northwood University. So I sat down with Victor and discussed his commitment to Northwood University and to talk about his key moments with the Henry Ford Trojans.
Position(s): Quarterback/Safety
First Game Started: The first game that I started was my freshman year at Orchard Lake St Marys, it was second game of the season and we played University of Detroit Jesuit.
Pregame Traditions: I normally put my headphones on and listen to my music. Unlike others I don’t listen to hype and loud songs, I listen slow and mellow type songs to help me get focused and relaxed.
Postgame Traditions: Whether we win or lose I always sit and isolate myself from everybody for about 30 minutes and reflect on the game. If we lose, I’m thinking how could we have did certain things better and won the game. If we win, I’m thinking about the little mistakes we made and how we can correct them.
Players in the NCAA or NFL that you try building your game around: From and Defensive Back and Safety standpoint, I love Charles Woodson and Ed Reed and definitely model my game after them. From a Quarterback perspective I am huge fan and admirer of Cam
Newton. In college I mostly watch and admire Safety Eric Reid and Defensive Back Tyrann Mathieu of LSU.
Lauren Beasley - How did it feel signing to Northwood University?
Victor Edge Jr – It felt great, I was happy to sign my name and make it official. I feel Northwood is a great
fit for me from academic perspective as well as athletic
perspective.
Lauren Beasley - How long had Northwood been recruiting you?
Victor Edge Jr - Northwood had been recruiting me since last year (April/May).
Lauren Beasley - What influenced your decision to sign with Northwood University?
Victor Edge Jr – I plan to major to major in Business Administration and they have great business program at Northwood. Northwood provided me with a family environment and its comfortable fit for me academically and athletically; it’s also close to home, so my family can come see me and etc. Lastly I have also had family members who have attended Northwood, so they told what I can expect and more.
Lauren Beasley - Which position / role will you be playing as a Timber Wolf?
Victor Edge Jr – I’m coming in to the program as athlete, but I would like to play Safety. Depending on how much weight I gain or drop I could possibly be moved to Outside Linebacker or just stay at Safety. My role will be to come in and can contribute right away. I may not start because Northwood only graduated five seniors. I can definetly come in and compete right away and have the opportunity to start. I also may have a role in special teams.
Lauren Beasley - How is your relationship with any other members of the 2012 Northwood class?
Victor Edge Jr – Yes I have met a couple players, Eddie Kidd of Brother Rice, Nick Tripp of Detroit Crockett and a couple more. Coming in we are already ready to compete and start as freshman and are on the same mission as far as wanting to be successful as team and individually as players.
Lauren Beasley – I know you played basketball at Henry Ford; do you plan to play basketball at Northwood University?
Victor Edge Jr- Northwood has allowed me to participate in both basketball and football. Have yet to decide on whether I will play basketball or not, I will probably make my decision once I am on campus and in the swing of things.
Lauren Beasley - What were some of your favorite moments while playing at Henry Ford?
Victor Edge Jr – First thing that comes to mind, was going to Ford Field playing for the Division 2 PSL championship, even though we lost it was great experience and dream to play on Ford Field Another great moment was when we travel to Ohio, to play an out-of-state game, unfortunately we didn’t win but great experience for us as a team. Lastly I really enjoyed the two-a-day sessions in the off season;
everybody worked hard and was eager to get better.
Lauren Beasley - What kind of an impact do you feel you left at Henry Ford and how do you see the program shaping in the future?
Victor Edge Jr – I felt like a big time player who has now left his legacy. I feel i am one of the tops Quarterbacks to play at Henry Ford. I believe. As far as team moving forward, next year I believe they will be pretty good because we have plenty of talented juniors and some good transfers as well. Unfortunately I feel after next season they might struggle because of the school and the future
player mindsets and etc., but hopefully they prove me wrong.
