James Third MVP: Deserving or Undeserving by Lauren Beasley
Miami Heat forward LeBron James has been awarded his third MVP award, and there is no question that he deserves it. This is LeBron James third MVP in his last four seasons in the NBA.
This has been James best season statistically and he has continued to play at intense level during the playoffs so far.
During the regular season James shot 53% from the field mainly due to the fact that most of his shots were made in the post. He also shot well from three point finishing the regular season with percentage of 36% from three point line.
James has also continued to be a consistent rebounder this season averaging 7.9 rebounds per game and continues to be unselfish super star averaging 6.2 assists per game.
Now I will admit, James has had a great season and he has made more moves to improve his game. He went to work with Hakeem Olajuwon to improve his post-game, even though let me add that Kobe Bryant was the first to do it and then Dwight Howard also worked with him but nonetheless it was still a good move by James.
James also was more smart with his shot selection which as I said before is the reason his field goal and three point percentage has improved.
However, personally I still would have liked to see Kevin Durant win the award, because I also feel he has had a great season and he has made the Thunder one of the elite teams in the West and in the NBA.
Durant averaged 28 points per game, 8 rebounds per game and shot 49.6% from the field which is still impressive considering how many shots he takes a game. He continues to grow as a player and a leader and has proved that he is not afraid to take the big shot and that he can make the big shot.
Nonetheless I still understand the decision to give James the MVP award and as I said he certainly deserves it.
Technically the only time I thought James didn’t deserve the MVP award was the first MVP award he receive in 2009. I felt that Dwayne Wade deserved it that year for the main fact Wade had just come off a huge injury from the previous year and was responsible for bringing life back to the Heat.
That season (2008-2009) Wade averaged 30 points per game, 7.5 assists a game and 2.2 steals per game. He also help the Heat get back into playoffs and made the Heat a team that once again players wanted to play for.
So as I said the only MVP award I felt James didn’t deserve was the one he received in 2009. Other than that I honestly felt that James deserved his other MVP award which he received in 2010 and I feel he does deserve this one, even though I would have preferred to see Kevin Durant win.
That being said there is no doubt that LeBron James is a great player who has plenty of hardware but he still is not the best player in the NBA until he shows me some clutch ability and wins a championship ring.
All of his hardware is great but if he wants to be the best and the greatest he has to show some clutch ability and win the most important hardware which is a NBA Championship Trophy and Ring.
