In the Middle of Difficulty Lives Opportunity by Lauren Beasley
Cass Tech senior quarterback Kevin Biscoe started off his senior season with plans to lead his team to the state championship; he didn’t plan to miss the entire season due to a torn ACL. However Biscoe didn’t let that stop him from leading his team to a state championship and he didn’t let it stop him from getting back on the field and earning a football scholarship.
Biscoe tore his ACL in the first game of the season against Harrison High School at Eastern Michigan University. No one had any idea that he tore his ACL when he was first helped off the field, but once news surfaced that he tore his ACL, doubt started to come about on whether he would play again, some college coaches even stop calling. People doubted him and Biscoe even admitted that doubted himself for a brief moment.
“Once I was told that I tore my ACL, I felt horrible and I started to doubt myself and the future of my football career.” Biscoe said. “However once I had a chance to think to myself to think, I decided to stop doubting myself and to make a great comeback. I wanted to do all I could to help my team win a state championship and I wanted to get back on the field & earn a football scholarship.”
Biscoe certainly did a make a great comeback; he started off by going to get surgery on his torn ACL, and then started physical therapy. While he was involved with his physical therapy, he didn’t let it stop him from being a leader to his team.
At this point Cass Tech football team was still going strong and out to win that state championship with freshman QB Jayru Campbell leading them. Now some people may have thought that Biscoe and Campbell might not have the best relationship considering that Campbell was now the starting quarterback. However Biscoe says that was far from the truth.
“Jayru and I have a great friendship.” Biscoe replied. “I considered him to be my boy, we talk, I did my best to give him advice and be a mentor and he was a great mentee and always open to receiving an advice. We are really cool.”
Cass Tech did end up winning a state championship making history and Biscoe’s leadership was definitely influential in that. Biscoe was and is proud of his team and is happy to be a part of the team and history.
“It was hard not playing in the state championship but was still very proud of my team.” Biscoe said. “Like me, they faced adversity and were able to prove the doubters wrong. After winning the state championship, I had accomplished one goal, not it was time to accomplish my goal of getting back on the field.”
After finishing up physical therapy, Biscoe immediately got back on the field and started doing his best to earn college interest again. One of the main schools that came up was Concordia University. According to Biscoe he had been contacted by Concordia sometime during last year.
“Yes, Concordia had contacted me last year but at the time I was receiving college interest from division 1 schools.” Biscoe replied. “So I believe a part of them didn’t try to really recruit me because of the bigger college interest that I had at the time.”
Concordia may have stop recruiting him, but they never stop keeping their eye on him and watching his progress after he tore his ACL.
“Yeah during the off season, they contacted me and told me they were interested in me and had seen great improvement in my game and wanted me to come up for a workout and visit.” Biscoe said. Once I all that was complete, they offered me a scholarship and told me they wanted me to commit immediately.”
Biscoe has verbally committed to Concordia University and will major in Business. He plans to sign as soon as possible. Biscoe said he might not be signed yet but he is 100% committed to Concordia. When asked, why he committed to Concordia, Biscoe had plenty to say.
“First off I love the coaching staff, especially the quarterback coach.” Biscoe replied. “They run a similar offense to Cass Tech which I love. They also have some great incoming talented freshman, which I have good friendships with. My family is also likes the school, which is also a plus.”
Biscoe will play quarterback at Concordia and definitely has a chance to compete for the starting quarterback position.
Kevin Biscoe may have not had the perfect senior season, but he says he wouldn’t change a thing about his senior year. Biscoe has overcome plenty of adversity and has not wallowed in self-pity. I have no doubt that Biscoe will do great at Concordia University both in the classroom and on the field.
